RoundMe Privacy Policy
RoundMe is a social app for meeting people nearby. It is run by Dark Matter ITS in New Jersey, USA ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who sees it, and the choices you have. RoundMe is for people 18 and older.
1. What we collect
| What | Details |
|---|---|
| Account | Your email address and password (stored by our sign-in provider, never in plain text), or the name and email from your Google account if you sign in with Google. |
| Birthday | Collected once, to check you are 18 or older. We calculate your age from it. Other people see only your age, never your birthday. |
| Profile | Display name, gender, who you are looking for, bio, interests, your town, and the optional details you add: height, weight, relationship status, smoking, drinking and education. You choose which of these other people can see. |
| Photos | Profile photos and photos you attach to posts. Location data embedded in a photo is removed before upload. |
| Location | Your exact location, only while the app is open (never in the background), used to find people and posts near you. It is stored privately and never shown to other people. They see only your town and a rough distance such as "within 5 miles". A post you make remembers where it was made, in the same private way. |
| Content and activity | Posts, replies, likes, chat messages, friend requests, swipes, matches and guesses in the Meet game, people you block, and reports you file. |
| Device and notifications | A push-notification token for your phone and basic device information, so we can send notifications you have allowed. |
| Technical data | Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and request times) for security and troubleshooting. |
2. How we use it
- To run RoundMe: show you people and posts nearby, deliver messages, matches and notifications.
- To keep people safe: enforce our Terms, handle reports and blocks, and prevent spam, fake accounts and anyone under 18.
- To improve and fix the app.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not show ads.
3. Who can see what
- Other users see your name, age, photos, town, rough distance, and the profile details you have not hidden. Hidden details are not sent to other people.
- Posts and replies are visible to nearby people who are allowed to see them. Posts leave the feed after 7 days.
- Messages are visible to the people in that conversation. They are protected in transit but are not end-to-end encrypted.
- Photos are served from public web links. Anyone who has a photo's link can open it until the photo is deleted, even though the link is hard to guess and we do not list photos publicly.
- People you block cannot see or contact you, and you do not see them.
4. Companies that help us run RoundMe
- Supabase: hosting, database, sign-in and photo storage.
- Google: Google sign-in (if you choose it) and Firebase Cloud Messaging for Android notifications.
- Expo: delivers push notifications. The text of a notification, such as a message preview or someone's name, passes through Expo's and Google's servers to reach your phone. You can turn notifications off in your phone's settings.
These companies may only use your information to provide their service to us. We may also share information when the law requires it, to respond to valid legal requests, or to protect someone's safety.
5. How long we keep it
- Your information stays while your account is active.
- When you delete your account in Settings > Delete account, your profile, photos, posts, messages and activity are deleted. Copies may remain in backups for a limited time before they expire.
- Reports are kept after an account is deleted, including a record of what was reported, so we can protect other people and respond to abuse.
6. Your choices
- Edit your profile and choose which details are visible, in the app.
- Turn "Discoverable" off in Settings to stop appearing in Locals and Meet.
- Control who can message you, and block or report anyone.
- Delete your account in the app at any time. If you cannot use the app, email us from the address on your account and we will delete it.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct it, by email. Depending on where you live (for example, under some US state laws), you may have additional rights; we will honor them.
7. Security
Data travels over encrypted connections and is protected by access rules in our database, so people only reach what they are allowed to see. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
8. Children
RoundMe is only for people 18 and older. We ask for your birthday when you sign up, and we do not knowingly allow anyone younger to use it. If you believe a minor has an account, email us and we will remove it.
9. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before the change applies. The date at the top shows the latest version.
